For nearly four decades, Principal^® Foundation has been supporting organizations that help eliminate barriers to a better financial future and expand access to essential resources and services that build stronger communities.

Through grantmaking, we aim to give people the support and confidence to pursue their goals. Principal Foundation funds organizations working in three primary areas we consider foundational to moving people closer to the financial future they envision:

Ensuring access to essential needs

Grants to organizations, programs, and initiatives help provide the resources people need to meet their essential needs—from housing to nutrition to disaster relief—creating stability and building blocks for what’s to come.

Fostering social and cultural connections

Grants support programs that engage communities in activities and conversations that expose them to new connections, ideas, and experiences, foster a sense of community and instills confidence to pursue new opportunities.

Promoting financial inclusion

Grants bolster initiatives for individuals to pursue financial security on their terms and support diverse small businesses and entrepreneurs by providing access to a network of solutions that help remove structural barriers.

Moving along the spectrum of financial security

We view financial security as a spectrum and fund charitable organizations that help individuals and communities move along the spectrum, toward wealth accumulation. From food banks to financial education, Principal Foundation grantees help more people access the things they need to make financial progress.
